John has been linked to his parents by a bible inscription submitted by Jessica CHRIMES. John appears in the 1841 census with his parents though the surname has been incorrectly transcribed as AIMES. John married four times. John's 1847 marriage is in the name CRIMES. John appears in the 1851 census but the surname has been incorrectly transcribed as GRIMES. John was married to Margaret and they had children Martha, Elizabeth and John. Margaret died in 1859 and John married Ann COX in October of that year. From The County Advertiser and Herald for Staffordshire and Worcestershire of 8 September 1860: "I, the undersigned JOHN CRIMES, puddler, of Hart's-hill, hereby give notice that I will not be accountable for any Debts my WIFE, Ann Crimes, may contract after this date. The Mark of x JOHN CRIMES. Sept. 7th, 1860." Ann is presumed to have died before the 1861 UK Census. John appears in the 1861 census as a Widower, still using the name CRIMES. With John were his children Elizabeth, Thomas, John and Sarah Ann. John re-married in 1863 to Ann Cartwright who had been married previously. John appears in the 1871 census with his second wife Ann, still using the name CRIMES. With them was David CARTWRIGHT, Ann's child from her previous marriage (and his wife). John appears in the 1881 census in Warrington, Lancashire, as a widower, with his son John and his daugther Sarah Ann. Both Johns used the name CHRIMES. John was the father of Thomas CHRIMES who had moved from Brierley Hill to Warrington before 1871. John appears in the 1891 census in Warrington with his fourth wife Harriet BROWNHILL who he had married in 1881. He claimed to be 6 years younger than he was. I cannot find a death record for John. |
