In 1921 Samuel Wesley was attending school 'Whole Time'. From The Crewe Chronicle of 16 January 1937: "NORTHWICH LAW EXAMINATION SUCCESS - MR. S. CHRIMES PASSES FINAL Mr. Samuel Wesley Chrimes, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Chrimes, "Newlands", Norley, has passed the final examination of the Law Society held in November. Mr. Chrimes is articled to Mr. Harold Moss, solicitor, Northwich, and he came through his examinations with second class honours, The number of candidates for the final examination was 479 and those with honours numbered 48. Mr. Chrimes was educated at Sir John Deane's Grammar School, Northwich, where he played in the second soccer team and the first Rugby XV and he is the second Old Wittonian to qualify as a solicitor in 1936, the success of Mr. J.A. Whipp having previously been notified." The first marriage record is incorrectly transcribed as Semuel. The hearing of the divorce application between Samuel Wesley and Evelyn Ellen took 5 days at Chester in December 1949, and was reported in great personal detail in The Liverpool Echo of 5 December 1949 and in The Cheshire Observer of 10 December 1949. The petition from Samuel Wesley (a solicitor himself) was rejected and a cross-petition from Evelyn Ellen was accepted. Brenda Mills was mentioned during the hearing. She became the second wife of Samuel Wesley in 1950. Samuel Wesley had been captain of the I.C.I.(Northwich) Rugby Football XV. Samuel Wesley was assistant solicitor to the I.C.I. (Alkali Division) in 1949. Samuel Wesley was a member of the R.A.F. between 1940 and 1945. From The Sandwell Evening Mail of 23 July 1985: "Death of Solicitor - One of Dudley's longest serving solicitors, Mr. Sam Chrimes has died after collapsing at his home. Police broke into his flat in Grange Road, Dudley after he failed to keep a hospital appointment or arrive at his chambers in the town centre. Mr. Chrimes, 71, was Dudley's only notary and clerk to a number of the town's charity trusts, and had practised from his office in Priory Street for many years". From The London Gazette: "CHRIMES Samuel Wesley [of] 22 Grange Court Grange Road Dudley West Midlands and 28 Priory Street Dudley West Midlands Solicitor [died] 19th July 1985". Samuel Wesley's Grant of Administration reads: "CHRIMES, Samuel Wesley of 22 Grange Ct Grange Rd Dudley died 19 July 1985 Administration Birmingham 30 July £57639" |
