Both John's gravestone inscription and Sharon Chrimes's research give John's birth year as 1730/31, but I can find no record of such birth, the nearest being 1724 or 1734. Could John have been born elsewhere than Weaverham Parish? Both John's marriage record and his burial record show him to be a resident of Crowton, and his will shows that he owned land in both Crowton and Norley, suggesting a link from the Norley branch to the Crowton or Weaverham branches. John appears in the Index to Death Duty Registers, but this gives simply "Chrimes Jno., Crowton, Chester." I have transcribed John's will and codicil which unsurprisingly do not help identify his birth or parents. The will names his sons Joseph, Thomas and John in that order, and names his daughter 'Sarah Holland'. The will also includes a bequest to "Elizabeth Aimson of Acton near Weaverham in the said County, Spinster, natural Daughter of Ann Aimson late of the same place, Spinster, deceased, the Sum of Twenty pounds". Was this Elizabeth a child of John? John is head of the branch "Norley". |
