"Claud" was admitted to Hoole All Saints' And Westminister Road School, Chester on 7 January 1907. Previous school: "M'chester Ducie Av". He left the Chester school on 19 May 1909 "Left District". I cannot find Claude on the 1911 UK Census. Claude served in WWI as Private in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Service Number: 35754 In 1921 Claude was employed by L & N W & G W Joint Railway Co. at General Railway Station, Chester. From The Chester Chronicle of 26 October 1940: "Chester Invalids: Mr. Claude Crimes, Delamere-street, Chester, who has been indisposed, was stated to-day (Friday) to be 'very much better'." Claude was proprietor of a shop in Chester, advertised as "For Real Radio Service ring up 2177 Chester Claude Crimes and son Radio House Delamere St., Chester". Later in 1941 the shop became Claude Crimes and son bicycle retailers. Claude was chairman of the Victory Garden Show" held at Chester Town Hall in 1941, raising funds for the Red Cross. From The Chester Chronicle of 18 January 1941: "A portable fire appliance conveyor has been devised by 18-year-old Stuart Ernest Petit, a member of a Chester fire-fighting family....No-one is more proud of the device than Councillor Claude Crimes, head warden of E2 A.R.P. post, who is giving the young fire-fighter every encouragement....Councillor Crimes justifiably claims that no street in the city is better equipped for fire-fighting than Delamere-street, where the post is situated and where the Councillor and Mr. Pettit have their business premises." Claude's Grant of Probate record reads: "CRIMES Claude of Sunset Lache Lane near Chester died 22 November 1957 Probate London 27 August to Florence Seymour Crimes widow and Roy Edwards accountant. Effects £5446 12s 9d" |
