K Garland has contributed, from Charles Henry's Military Service Records: "His service number was 063407. He enlisted on 30/3/1915 and was transferred home after 2 years in France for 3 months on compassionate grounds on 28/7/18 following the death of his 6 year old daughter Florence. It looks like he stayed in the UK. He had a medical exam on 14/4/1919 in Ormskirk, was granted furlough from 17/4/19 stamped Heaton Park and was transferred to Class Z Army Reserve from 15/5/1919." [There is some overlap between Military Service and the next item, but nevertheless both are believed to relate to the same person] From www.ancestry.co.uk 'UK, Calendar of Prisoners, 1868-1929': "Charles Henry Crimes, 41, Labourer; Committed on 5 May 1919 for trial at Ormskirk on 27 May 1919; Offence - Incest; Verdict - Guilty; Sentence - 18 c.m. hard labour." In the 1921 England Census, Charles Henry was not living with his wife and children. He cannot be found on the 1921 England Census. This may be because he was still in prison. However, Electoral Register records suggest that he was reconciled with his wife by 1923. Charles Henry's Grant of Probate reads: "CRIMES Charles Henry of 16 Church Street Wellington Salop died 5 December 1935. Probate London 7 January [1936] to Robert Daniel Newill solicitor. Effects: £285 4s. 3d." |
