I cannot find James Foster on the 1881 UK Census.
James Foster emigrated to Australia. He arrived Melbourne in 1882 (aged 19).
James Foster was initiated into the Combermere Lodge of Freemasons at Melbourne on 15 July 1886 but was excluded for non-payment in 1890.
A Newspaper Article informs us that James Foster took over the publican's license for the Criterion Hotel in 1896.
James Foster died in Australia in 1944. His Death Notice reads: "CHRIMES January 15 1944 at a private hospital Drummoyne James Foster Chrimes late of 71 Ingham Avenue Fivedock dearly loved husband of Bridget and dear father of Mollie (Mrs Cresswell Smith of 17 Bennett Avenue Fivedock) and grand father of Yvonne"
