Many researchers have assigned a middle name of Washington to this person, but I have yet to find a record in support of this. From The Clark Bible: "George Crymes b. 1766" From The Greenville Mountaineer 1826-1863: "Departed this life at White Plains, Anderson District, S. C., on the 4th inst., Mr. George Crymes in the 80th year of his age. The deceased was born in Lunenburg County. Virginia, and at the early age of 16 entered the Revolutionary Army, and was present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis to General Washington at Yorktown. He [p.157] emigrated to this state in 1796, and has lived the last 57 years in this District, except the last year when he lived in Anderson. He was an orderly member of the Baptist Church. He has left a numerous family of children, grand children and great grandchildren to mourn their loss." From Crymes family history by Mrs. Eulalie Crymes Wilson - 1920: "George Crymes, Sr., b. Feb. 18, 1766 in Va. d. Dec. 4, 1845 m. Feb. 9, 1786" and "George Crymes had eight children: Thomas, Edmund, Benjamin, Jacky, William Martin, Polly, Nancy, Robert and [sic] Dudley." |
