From The Greenville Mountaineer of 18 January 1839: "Died on the 20th ult., very suddenly, near Hamburg, S. C., Mr. Thomas Crymes of Spartanburg District, in the 42d year of his age, leaving a wife and six children to mourn the irreparable loss of a tender and affectionate husband and parent, and a large circle of relatives and acquaintances who deeply deplore this exit."
