The alternative surname CRIMES appears in some records. Despite the absence of any baptism/marriage/burial records, Philip CRIMES puts forward a credible case that "A Joseph Chrimes of Acton was a parish collector of rates for Acton in 1695 and an overseer of the poor for Acton in 1699. These roles follow those held by Jonathan Chrimes of Acton who d.1700. Furthermore, a Joseph Chrimes gave an affidavit that Jonathan d.1700 was buried in woollen, leading to the conclusion that Joseph Chrimes was closely related to Jonathan, most probably a son." The marriage to Mary WILLIAMSON is based on a marriage license dated 15 Aug 1687 though the license does not give the parish of either party. There may have been other children earlier in this marriage, but the Weaverham prs are missing for that period. Philip Crimes has developed a credible argument that one of the "missing" children was Robert CRIMES, head of the Ollerton branch. See notes for that person. |
