CheshireBMD gives the location of the 1888 marriage as "Runcorn, Civil Marriage or Registrar Attended" but this should be treated with caution as the ceremony may have been Methodist.
Robert Arthur was elected to Norley parish council in 1900.
From The Liverpool Daily Post of 13 October 1904 "NORTHWICH FANCIERS' SHOW ... The poultry sections were said to equal anything seen at The Crystal Palace. Mr. Chrimes, of Norley, almost swept the decks and carried off the cup for the best bird in the members' classes."
Robert Arthur owned and lived on a farm at Easton near Grantham in Lincolnshire from 1906 to 1910
In 1911, Robert Arthur, Mary Ann and their children Martha Ann, Ethel, Mary and Samuel Edgar were living on a large farm at Hopwell near Derby
From The London Gazette of 19 June 1914: "Notice is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us, the undersigned, Robert Arthur Chrimes and Wilfred Bennett, carrying on business as Poultry Farmers, at Hopwell, in the county of Derby, under the style or firm of CHRIMES AND BENNETT, has been dissolved by mutual consent as and from the 26th day of May, 1914. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid by Messrs. Wallis and Starkie, Solicitors, of York Chambers, Long Eaton, Derby..."
See the newspaper report of Robert Arthur's bankruptcy in 1916.
Information from Hazel CHRIMES shows that Robert Arthur subsequently moved to South Wales, which is where Mary Ann died.
From The South Wales Gazette of 16 March 1917: "ADULTERATED MILK - CWMCARN FARMER FINED Robert Chrimes (49), farmer, Cwmcarn, and Samuel Chrimes, 16, milkvendor, Cwmcarn, were summoned for selling milk adulterated with 50.47 per cent of added water on January 26th. The former was also summoned for selling milk with 6.24 per cent of added water. ... Robert Chrimes said he kept 16 cows but bought some milk, which was sold as he received it. Another witness said the milk had the appearance as though artificial colouring had been used... The Chairman (Dr. E.M. Griffith) said the Bench regarded it as a serious case and there had been tremendous adulteration and that whoever was responsible for this the defendant was selling it. He would be fined £15 and £5 costs. The lad was ordered to pay costs."
Robert Arthur emigrated to Australia, where he re-married, to Elizabeth CHALLAND.
Later his 4 surviving children from his first marriage followed him to Australia.
In many of the Australian Electoral Rolls and other records, Robert Arthur is named Arthur.
The 1925 Electoral Roll shows that Robert Arthur settled initially in Western Australia, prior to marrying Elizabeth CHALLAND and moving to New South Wales.
From The Cessnock Eagle and South Maitland Recorder of 15 September 1925: "LAND APPLICATIONS - The following applications have been received at the Maitland Lands Office: Settlement purchase, Arthur Chrimes, 7 acres, 3 roods, 5 perches, portion 463, Parish of Heddon, in the Weston settlement area."
From the Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate (New South Wales) of 24 May 1927: MAITLAND DISTRICT - VALUABLE IMPORTED POULTRY - ALLEGED LARCENY - CHRIMES COMMITTED. At the West Maitland Police Court yesterday, before Mr. M.H. Cleeve, P.M., the evidence was concluded in connection with the alleged larceny of valuable poultry from Mr. John Brown's poultry farm at Minmi during last year. The following charges were preferred against Arthur Chrimes, poultry farmer, at the Weston Soldiers Settlement:- That on or about June 14, 1926, he did steal a Brahma cock valued at £52; that on or about June 14, 1926 he did steal ...[, etc.] The magistrate said that it seemed to him that the evidence was conflicting, but at the same time he thought there was a case to answer. There were some things that had not been brought out that required an explanation. He would hear defendant's explanation or he could take the case to jury. Chrimes, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial at the Maitland Quarter Sessions to be held at the East Maitland Courthouse on June 21. Bail was fixed, self in £30 and one surety in £30, or two in £15 each." At the subsequent trial by jury on 24 June 1927 'Arthur' was found not guilty on all charges.
On the Electoral Rolls for 1930 and onwards Arthur's address was given as "Norley Poultry Farm", reflecting his origins, and he was living with his second wife Elizabeth [CHALLAND] and his children by his first marriage Samuel [Edgar] and Mary.
