From Mattie's Find-a-Grave record: "...At the age of sixteen, Mattie married Oscar Dudley Crymes, eight years her senior. Mattie and Oscar lived, farmed and raised ten children in the St. Florian area of Lauderdale Co., AL. Of the three daughters and seven sons, only one son did not reach adulthood. Tommie Lee died at the age of five. After the ordeal of the depression, Oscar and Mattie moved their family to Nashville, TN. They spent their retirement years reading the Bible, attending Central Church of Christ and helping to raise a couple of granddaughters. Mattie loved growing flowers and spent hours in her garden along side her husband. Mattie, Oscar and their eldest daughter, Elizabeth, are buried in adjacent plots under one gravemarker at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. [In remembrance from Mattie's granddaughters.] " |
